8 Best Dog Parks in Orange County (2026 Local Guide)

Golden Retriever playing with their owner in Newport Beach, California.

Orange County’s fenced dog parks are the weekday version of Huntington Dog Beach: double gates, split yards, and a closed day you have to check before you drive.

I ranked the off-leash yards by Google and Yelp volume-weighted ratings, the same way we ranked tacos. A 4.6 with hundreds of reviews beats a 4.9 with a handful.

If you only go to one fenced park, make it Orange Dog Park at Yorba Park. Huntington Central Park is the coastal wood-chip yard, Irvine Central Bark is the three-acre field, and Fullerton Pooch Park is the north-county workhorse.

Costa Mesa Bark Park is the two-acre Fairgrounds neighbor. Laguna Niguel Pooch Park and Laguna Beach Dog Park cover south county, and San Clemente’s Baron Von Willard Memorial Dog Park is the La Pata closer.

These sit next to the 500 Things to Do in Orange County list, the best beaches guide, and the hikes from easy to expert roundup if you want a leash walk after the off-leash hour.

Orange Dog Park (Orange)

Orange Dog Park is the volume-and-rating champion among the county’s fenced yards. Google has it at 4.6 from about 788 reviews, which is the combination that wins this list.

The park sits inside Yorba Park, with separate large-dog and small-dog sections, double gates, and volunteer waste stations. Friends of the Orange Dog Park partner with the city, and hours, rules, and volunteer notes live on the Orange Dog Park site.

They close Wednesdays for cleaning. There is no night lighting, so this is a dawn-to-dusk park, not an after-work floodlit field.

You will find it at 190 S Yorba St, Orange, near the 55 and Chapman. Leash up the second you leave the fenced yard; the rest of Yorba Park is not off-leash.

Huntington Central Park Dog Park (Huntington Beach)

Huntington’s fenced yard is the inland counterweight to Dog Beach, and Google has it at 4.5 from about 700 reviews. Best Friends Dog Park volunteers keep the wood chips, water, and bag stations going.

There are two sides: one for small dogs and puppies, one for large dogs, plus a dog-walk-of-fame and seating under the trees. Rules, hours, and volunteer contacts live at hbdogpark.com and on the city park page.

City hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends. Enter at the Inlet Drive lot on the east side of Edwards, between Ellis and Talbert.

The address for mapping is Inlet Drive and Edwards Street, Huntington Beach. The surrounding 350-acre Central Park is leash-on; save the off-leash run for the fenced yard, then drive to Huntington Dog Beach if you want sand.

Irvine Central Bark (Irvine)

Central Bark is the county’s biggest dedicated fenced dog park, almost three acres of open field since 2000, with a separate yard for small or frail dogs. That size is why it ranks here even though Yelp sits around 4.0 from about 470 reviews.

The City of Irvine lists watering stations, covered seating, lights, and handicap access. Hours run 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the current close day is the second Wednesday of the month for maintenance, not every Wednesday.

Call 949-724-MUDD or check Irvine field conditions after rain. The city is designing drainage, turf, and shade upgrades, with the old household-hazardous-waste yard folded into later phases.

Park at 6405 Oak Canyon, Irvine. Keep current rabies tags visible; they do check.

Fullerton Pooch Park (Fullerton)

Fullerton Pooch Park is the north-county volume pick, 4.3 on Google from about 605 reviews. It sits next to Hunt Branch Library with three yards: small dogs under 25 pounds, a large-dog field, and a wood-chip area open to all.

The city owns the land; the Fullerton Dog Park Foundation opens, closes, and staffs it. City details are on the Fullerton Pooch Park page, with the foundation at fullertondogparkfoundation.org.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., closed Wednesday for maintenance. Watch for sandburs in the grass after a wet stretch.

The gate is at 201 S Basque Ave, Fullerton.

Costa Mesa Bark Park (Costa Mesa)

Costa Mesa Bark Park is two fenced acres at TeWinkle Park, across from the OC Fairgrounds equestrian center, with a separate yard for small, elderly, and disabled dogs. Yelp is an honest 3.5 from about 301 reviews, which is why this is the Fairgrounds workhorse and not the county champion.

The City of Costa Mesa has it open 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. daily except Wednesday, when it closes for maintenance. Call the mudline at (714) 754-5041 after rain.

Parking is the lot shared with the skate park. Double gates, benches, water, bags, and restrooms are the reason it still draws a crowd on weeknights.

Map it at 890 Arlington Dr, Costa Mesa.

Laguna Niguel Pooch Park (Laguna Niguel)

Pooch Park is the south-county suburban standard: a fully fenced off-leash yard with separate large- and small-dog areas, shade structures, and a canyon-edge setting next to Fire Station 49. Do not park in the fire-station stalls.

City park rules put hours at 7 a.m. to dusk Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to dusk Sunday. It also closes Monday and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon for maintenance, which is the trap if you show up on a weekday morning.

Mission Viejo Animal Services patrols it. Confirm current notes on the City of Laguna Niguel parks pages before you drive.

The listing address is 31461 Golden Lantern, Laguna Niguel.

Laguna Beach Dog Park (Laguna Beach)

Laguna Beach Dog Park is the only off-leash yard in town. Everywhere else, including the sand, is leash-on, which is why this two-acre canyon lot behind the animal shelter matters.

The city park page lists a main fenced run plus a smaller small-breed yard, a drinking fountain, and benches. Friends of the Laguna Beach Dog Park keep extra notes at lagunabeachdogpark.com.

Open 6 a.m. to dusk every day except Wednesday. It also closes during and after rain; text LBDOGPARK to 888-777 for closure alerts.

Metered street parking is in front at 20672 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach. If you wanted the ocean instead, that is the dog-beach guide, not this fence.

Baron Von Willard Memorial Dog Park (San Clemente)

San Clemente’s fenced park is officially the Baron Von Willard Memorial Dog Park, just past the Steed Park entrance at the end of La Pata. Separate large-dog and small-or-older-dog yards, double gates, and a grassy-to-dirt surface are the layout.

City rules say this is an off-leash park only: unleash inside the safety zone before you go through the second gate. Closed Tuesday until 1 p.m. for maintenance, and it shuts down after rain.

Hours run 6 a.m. to sunset. Confirm with San Clemente Beaches, Parks & Recreation at (949) 361-8264 if the mudline is not posted.

Park on the street at 301 Avenida La Pata, San Clemente.

Honorable mentions

Barker Ranch Dog Park in Lake Forest is a small turf yard with separate large- and small-dog gates, 4.5 from about 252 reviews. That rating is real, but the volume is too thin to knock Fullerton or Huntington off the ranked eight.

Find it at 25650 Baffin Bay Dr, Lake Forest, with hours 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the city page.

Bark Barracks is Tustin’s first city dog park, about an acre at Tustin Legacy with grass, decomposed granite, lights, and an acclimation pen. Hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., closed Friday mornings for maintenance, at 1625 Flight Way, Tustin.

Newport Beach Civic Center Dog Park is the newer turf-and-shade-sail yard behind the civic center at 100 Civic Center Drive, Newport Beach. Polite and modern, still building the review volume.

Checkers Dog Park is Yorba Linda’s first off-leash yard, under a half-acre, all sizes in one fence, at 5411 Eastside Cir, Yorba Linda.

Garden Grove Dog Park is the large-and-small split at Garden Grove Park, 9301 Westminster Ave, Garden Grove, dawn to dusk.
