Best pizza in Orange County: Truly Pizza pepperoni, Fuoco Neapolitan pies, Gibroni's Detroit-style and Tony's Chicago deep dish

The best pizza in Orange County starts at Truly Pizza in Dana Point, now ranked No. 4 in the U.S. by 50 Top Pizza. Fuoco in Fullerton leads for Neapolitan pies. Tony’s Little Italy in Placentia owns Chicago deep dish, and Gibroni’s in San Clemente owns Detroit-style.

This guide ranks eight OC pizzerias across four styles: Neapolitan, New York, Detroit and Chicago. I checked each official menu, address and current hours, and I left out anything closed or outside the county.

“Best pizza” means something different to everyone. Some people want a soupy, leopard-spotted Neapolitan pie. Others want a foldable New York slice or a crispy-edged Detroit square.

So this list is ranked by how well each spot does its own style. A few of them also pour great beer, which never hurts.

How I ranked these pizzerias

I weighed crust and dough first, then sauce, cheese and toppings. National awards and long local track records counted too.

I also looked at the practical stuff: hours, wait times and whether you can actually get a table. Prices come from current official menus and may change.

1. Truly Pizza

Truly Pizza is the most decorated pizzeria in Orange County. 50 Top Pizza ranked it No. 4 in the U.S. for 2026 and No. 26 in the world.

Its Umami Mushroom pie also took the guide’s Pizza of the Year award. That is a big deal for a small spot on Del Prado Avenue.

The team behind the oven

Truly was founded by Donna Baldwin and John Arena with partners Chris Decker and Michael Vakneen. Decker is part of the World Pizza Champions team.

The kitchen buys ingredients twice a week from small Orange County farms. You can taste it in the seasonal pies and salads.

What to order at Truly Pizza

Get the Umami Mushroom ($24). It layers a creamy onion-garlic sauce, smoked mozzarella, roasted mushrooms, sesame oil and bonito.

The Crispy Pepperoni ($20) is the safe crowd-pleaser. Square-pie fans can order the Original Cheese ($20) or Classic Pepperoni ($23).

Add the Garlic Pull Apart Bread ($12) and save room for soft serve. The Ciccio ($20) is dine-in only.

Good to know before you go

Truly is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and closed Tuesdays. A second Orange County location opened in Laguna Beach in May 2026.

The original sits at 24402 Del Prado Ave, Dana Point, CA 92629. The Laguna Beach shop is at 320 N Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, CA 92651. Menus live on the Truly Pizza website.

2. Fuoco Pizzeria Napoletana

Fuoco Pizzeria Napoletana is the best Neapolitan pizza in Orange County. It is VPN certified, which means it follows the Naples rules for dough, oven and bake.

Brothers Franco and Tullio Ceccarelli come from three generations of pizzaioli. The Washington Post has named Fuoco among America’s best pizzas.

The oven does the work

Pies bake in a Stefano Ferrara oven running near 1,000°F. Each one takes about 90 seconds.

That gives you a soft, puffy, charred crust with a tender center. Pizzas are 12 inches and come to the table unsliced, the Naples way.

What to order at Fuoco

Start with the Margherita to judge the dough. Then get the Vespa, with cup-and-char pepperoni, goat cheese and spicy honey.

The Diavola and Black Truffle pies are also strong. Do not skip the mozzarella bar, and ask about gluten-free crust if you need it.

Timing your visit

Fuoco opens at 11 a.m. seven days a week and stays open until the dough runs out. Late dinners can be a gamble on busy nights.

Find it in downtown Fullerton at 101 N Harbor Blvd, Fullerton, CA 92832. Menus are on the Fuoco Pizzeria website.

3. Tony’s Little Italy Pizza

Tony’s Little Italy Pizza is the best Chicago-style pizza in Orange County. Tony Manzella’s family has run it since 1978.

Tasting Table put it on a list of the top Chicago-style pizzas outside Chicago. OC Register readers also voted it Best Pizza in 2022.

Deep dish takes time

Order stuffed or pan deep dish, and plan on at least 45 minutes. Thin crust takes about 30 minutes.

Calling ahead is the smart move. Pies come in 10, 12 and 14 inch sizes.

What to order at Tony’s

Regulars go with pepperoni and sausage in the stuffed crust. The sauce sits on top, thick and bright.

Finish with a homemade cannoli. Tony’s also sells frozen pizzas to bake at home.

Hours and contact

Tony’s is open Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday until 8 p.m. It is closed Monday and Tuesday.

It is at 1808 N Placentia Ave, Unit B, Placentia, CA 92870. Call 714-528-2159 or see the Tony’s Little Italy website.

4. Gibroni’s Pizza

Gibroni’s Pizza is the best Detroit-style pizza in Orange County. Owners Tony and Lindsey Gioutsos have Michigan roots and started selling pies from their home driveway during the shutdown.

Now they run a full pizzeria and sports bar in San Clemente. The San Clemente Times named it Best Pizza in town in 2024 and 2025.

What Detroit-style means here

Each 8×10 pie bakes in a steel pan and comes with four slices. Every slice gets a crispy, cheesy frico edge.

One pie feeds one or two people. Gluten-free crust is available for $6 more.

What to order at Gibroni’s

Get From the D ($23), a double pepperoni pie that curls into crispy cups. The 313 and The Fun Guys are good second picks.

Wash it down with Faygo or one of 16 rotating craft beers. The $11 Slice & a Lager deal is a solid lunch.

Game days and parking

There are 14 TVs and a patio, so it fills up on game days. Park in the lower lot at DeNault Plaza.

Gibroni’s is at 555 N El Camino Real, Suite E, San Clemente, CA 92672. It is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. See the Gibroni’s Pizza website.

5. Brooklyn City Pizzeria & Market

Brooklyn City Pizzeria & Market is my pick for New York pizza in Orange County. The family’s late father, Charlie, ran diners in Brooklyn.

That East Coast background shows in the big, thin, foldable pies. The dough cold-rests for up to three days before it hits the oven.

What to order at Brooklyn City

Pies are 18 inches and cut into six big slices. The Classic is $23 and the Pepperoni is $26.

The Vodka and Speziata pies ($30 each) are the house favorites. The thick Sicilian ($30) is great for a group.

Add garlic knots ($8) and the meatballs. The market side sells Italian pantry goods to take home.

Hours and location

It is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed Mondays. Hours run until 8 p.m. most nights and 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Find it at 30012 Crown Valley Pkwy, Suite L, Laguna Niguel, CA 92677. Call 949-363-7777 or visit the Brooklyn City Pizzeria website.

6. Folks Pizzeria

Folks Pizzeria is the best sit-down pizza night in Costa Mesa. It is a small, full-service room at The CAMP with natural wine and rotating craft beer.

Expect a blistered crust, seasonal toppings and a lively little room. It feels like a neighborhood spot, even inside a shopping center.

What to order at Folks

Each 14-inch pie serves two or three people. Try the Fennel Sausage or the Pancetta & Potato.

The Mushroom pie with black truffle béchamel is the splurge. Round it out with the Caesar, the meatballs and a side of Folks Ranch for your crusts.

Reservations and hours

Folks takes walk-ins and reservations. Call ahead if you are bringing a large group.

It opens at 4 p.m. Monday to Thursday and at 3 p.m. Friday to Sunday. Indoor and outdoor seating come with heaters on cool nights.

Folks is at 2937 Bristol St, A102, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. Call 714-617-4888 or see the Folks Pizzeria website.

7. Pietrini Pizza Napoletana

Pietrini Pizza Napoletana is a family wood-fired spot on Katella Avenue. It opened in January 2021.

Founder Gene Pietrini died later that year. His son Landon kept the oven going and placed fifth out of 71 at the 2023 World Pizza Games.

Two styles under one roof

The 12-inch wood-fired Neapolitan pies are the main event. The Margherita runs $19 and the Ultimo is $22.

Want something bigger? The 18-inch New York pies start with a $22 cheese. The Drunken Meatball pie is $32.

What to order at Pietrini

Try the Diavola if you like heat. The Street Corn Elote pie ($21) is the fun, very SoCal one.

Twelve taps make it easy to pair a beer. PMQ Pizza Magazine named it the No. 3 most popular independent pizzeria in 2025.

Hours are Wednesday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends from 4 to 9 p.m. It is closed Monday and Tuesday.

Pietrini sits at 5262 Katella Ave, Los Alamitos, CA 90720. Call 562-318-3050 or visit the Pietrini Pizza website.

8. Riip Beer & Pizza

Riip Beer & Pizza is the best pizza and beer combo in Orange County. Riip Beer Company was named Brewery and Brewer of the Year in its size category (2,001–5,000 barrels) at the 2024 Great American Beer Festival.

It runs two Huntington Beach pizzerias. One faces the ocean on PCH, and the other sits in South HB.

What to order at Riip

The menu splits into thin-crust pies and Detroit-style focaccia squares. The cup pepperoni pies are the move.

Specialty pies rotate, so check the board for what’s new. Pair any of them with a house pint.

Pick your location

The PCH spot took over the old Tsunami Sushi in Sunset Beach, next to the brewery. It has a dog-friendly patio and a small arcade.

The South HB spot fills the former Fitzgerald’s Irish Pub. Both are family-friendly and open daily from 11 a.m.

Visit 17236 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA 92649 or 19171 Magnolia St #12, Huntington Beach, CA 92646. Menus and taps are on the Riip Beer website.

Honorable mentions

Mama Roscoe’s Pizzeria in Anaheim topped the OC Register’s 2026 readers’ poll. It is at 444 N Lakeview Ave, Anaheim, CA 92807, with menus on the Mama Roscoe’s website.

Rance’s Chicago Pizza in Costa Mesa is the other deep-dish name locals argue about. Find it at 1420 Baker St, Ste B, Costa Mesa, CA 92626.

Loosies Pizza in downtown Santa Ana is a strong New York slice stop. It is at 300 E 4th St, Ste 103, Santa Ana, CA 92701.
