Dana Point’s biggest summer beach tradition is back. The Doheny Surf & Art Festival returns to Doheny State Beach on June 27 and 28, bringing two full days of surf competitions, local artists, live music, and the kind of laid-back beachside energy that makes this one of Orange County’s most beloved free events.
When and where
The festival runs Saturday, June 27 from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday, June 28 from 10am to 4pm, right at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point. Admission is free, though standard state park parking fees apply if you’re parking inside the park itself. If you’ve never been, plan to arrive early. Doheny’s lot fills up fast on festival weekends, and the surrounding street parking disappears just as quickly.
The music lineup
This year’s live music schedule leans into surf rock and beach vibes all weekend. New Wave Kids brings an 80s tribute set Saturday at 1pm, followed by The Alvarez Band’s local showcase at 3pm. The Aloha Strummers play both days starting at 10am, and Telesound closes things out Sunday with a local showcase at 12:30pm.
What else to expect
Beyond the music, the festival features surf competitions across multiple divisions, live art demonstrations from local artists creating ocean-inspired work in real time, and a vendor village stacked with food trucks, surf brands, and handmade goods. It’s the kind of event where you can wander for an hour or plant a beach chair for the whole day, depending on your mood.
Good to know before you go
Bring cash for vendors, since not every booth takes cards. Sunscreen is non-negotiable, this is an all-day outdoor event with zero shade near the main festival area. And if you’re bringing kids, the surf competitions tend to draw a crowd right at the water’s edge, so get there early if you want a good viewing spot.
The Doheny Surf & Art Festival has become one of those Orange County traditions that locals plan their whole weekend around. If you’re anywhere near Dana Point on June 27 or 28, it’s worth the trip.
