The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade runs Wednesday–Sunday, December 16–20, 2026. Boats start at the tip of Lido Isle at about 6:30 p.m. and finish around 9 p.m. each night. Shoreline viewing is free; a cruise, reserved seat or waterfront dinner is a separate paid experience.
For a first visit, Marina Park is the easiest starting point: a large public viewing area on the Balboa Peninsula with a playground and harbor frontage. This guide covers the 2026 route, when boats reach different viewing spots, parking and what you actually buy with a cruise ticket—not a general Christmas roundup.
2026 parade dates and essential details
The 118th parade is hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce. The organizer’s 2026 FAQ confirms December 16–20, a 6:30 p.m. start off Lido Isle and an approximately 9 p.m. finish. Times throughout this guide are local Newport Beach time (PST).
Those times describe the whole procession, not when it reaches every shoreline. A spot near the start has a much earlier viewing window than the Coast Highway waterfront. Check the route before choosing a dinner reservation.

Where the route goes—and when boats pass
The official 2026 parade route map starts and ends at the tip of Lido Isle. It circles Lido, passes the Peninsula waterfront and Balboa Village, continues toward Peninsula Point and the Corona del Mar side, follows the Balboa Island waterfront, then returns along the north side of the harbor.
| Viewing point | 2026 map time (approx.) | Access notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tip of Lido Isle | 6:30 p.m. start; 9 p.m. finish | Route reference—not a promise of public access |
| Marina Park | 6:54 p.m. on map | Free public shoreline; organizer prose separately says 6:45 |
| 10th Street Beach | 7:02 p.m. | Free shoreline where publicly accessible |
| Balboa Fun Zone | 7:15 p.m. | Free waterfront viewing; attractions cost extra |
| Peninsula Point Beach | 7:25 p.m. | Public viewing marked on map |
| Balboa Island Bridge | 7:45 p.m.; 8:11 p.m. return | Two mapped passes; do not obstruct bridge access |
| South Bayfront / Grand Canal | 7:54 p.m. | Stay on public paths, not private docks |
| Newport Sea Base | 8:39 p.m. on map | Paid venue; ticket page says visible at 8:37 |
These are estimated route times, not a reserved appointment. There are two official-source discrepancies: the viewing page says Marina Park around 6:45 p.m., while the map says 6:54; Sea Base’s ticket page says 8:37, while the map says 8:39. Arrive before the earlier time and allow for delays.
Free public viewing: Marina Park, Fun Zone and Balboa Island
Marina Park at 1600 W Balboa Blvd, Newport Beach, CA 92663 is the organizer’s largest public viewing location. Admission is free.
Balboa Village’s Fun Zone waterfront is another organizer-recommended free viewing area. Map Balboa Fun Zone, Newport Beach, CA and expect the procession around 7:15 p.m. on the official map. Viewing from shore does not require buying an attraction ticket or boarding a boat.
Balboa Island gives you public waterfront paths and later route windows. The map marks South Bayfront near Grand Canal at 7:54 p.m. Keep driveways, walkways and bridge approaches clear. Private docks and restaurant patios are not public viewing areas.
Parking, arrival and accessibility
The organizer’s parking page says city lots and legal street parking are available; lots fill quickly. Choose your viewing area first and allow extra time for the Peninsula approach. Do not plan a last-minute drive between Marina Park and Balboa Island during the procession.
The city’s current parking guidance says hours vary by location: check posted signs rather than assuming evening parking is free. Balboa Pier lot requires payment 24 hours a day. No fixed 2026 parade-night parking rate or special shuttle schedule was verified for this guide.
For disabled parking, the city lists Marina Park as a no-discount exception; Balboa Pier lot has a 50% discount with a valid placard. A placard does not guarantee an available space or a reserved viewing position. For a step-free viewing plan, confirm the route from parking to the waterfront and restroom access for your needs before visiting.
For cruises, ask the operator specifically about gangway steps, boarding assistance, wheelchair storage and accessible toilets on your assigned vessel. Shoreline accessibility and boat accessibility are different questions. No dedicated 2026 accessible viewing reservation program was confirmed.

Paid shoreline seating: Newport Sea Base
Newport Sea Base at 1931 W Coast Hwy, Newport Beach, CA 92663 offers paid on-land viewing, not a cruise. Its 2026 registration page lists December 16–20 sessions, lawn tickets at $12–$14 and balcony tickets at $15–$18. Private group spaces are separate purchases.
The ticket page says seating begins at 7 p.m., with boats visible around 8:37 p.m.; the route map lists 8:39. Limited venue parking is $25 per vehicle. Children under 2 are free unless they need their own seat. Select your date and section on the registration page and confirm the total before paying.
Follow the ticket page’s current rules: it allows water but prohibits outside food and outside alcohol. The parade organizer’s directory has different snack guidance, so do not rely on that older summary. Confirm balcony access with Sea Base at 714-923-3191 if stairs are an issue.
Paid cruises: parade nights versus holiday lights trips
A parade cruise puts you on the water; it is not required to watch for free. Newport Landing’s official holiday cruise site advertises 75-minute general-admission cruises from $39. That is a seasonal starting price—not a guaranteed fare for every December 16–20 departure. Choose an actual parade date and review the booking total, departure time and cancellation terms.
Newport Landing lists departures from 309 Palm St, Newport Beach, CA 92661. Your confirmation controls the assigned check-in and boarding details. Groups of 10 or more can call 949-675-0555. Exact 2026 departure slots, remaining inventory and date-specific totals were not verified in a booking calendar.
The operator distinguishes December 16–20 parade cruises from holiday lights cruises running November 27, 2026–January 2, 2027. Outside the five parade nights you can see decorated homes and harbor lights, but should not expect the official procession.
For other operators—including dinner cruises, private charters and gondolas—start with the organizer’s boat-viewing directory. Ask whether your chosen sailing overlaps the parade, whether food is included, and which dock it uses. A private rental is not automatically entry into the official parade.
Fireworks, weather and what still needs checking
The organizer posts opening fireworks off Newport Pier on Wednesday, December 16 at approximately 6:15 p.m., subject to safety conditions. Newport Pier is on the ocean side; the boat parade is in the harbor. One shoreline position does not necessarily give you a clear view of both.
Bring warm layers for the waterfront and check the organizer’s site before leaving in poor weather. The FAQ says the parade can run in rain but may be cancelled for a small-watercraft advisory. Do not treat an old grand-marshal listing, prior-year party date or undated restaurant package as a confirmed 2026 booking.
Build a Newport Beach holiday plan
For other outings across the county, use our Christmas events guide rather than treating this route guide as a second holiday listicle. Plan earlier meals with Thanksgiving in Orange County, then check New Year’s Eve events and the Orange County events calendar.
For a separate Newport meal, our Orange County seafood restaurant guide includes harbor-area options. A recommendation there does not confirm parade-night seating, a view or a special menu—book directly.
